The *Little Rock Workforce Development Board *(LRWDB) continues site visits at multiple locations in Little Rock as part of the *On-Site and On-Target Workshop Series*. These visits with community partners serve as critical sources of information for the LRWDB’s Local Transitional Plan under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act (WIOA).
On August 18, LRWDB members visited the Arkansas Lighthouse for the Blind (ALB). Katie Hall, Manager of Marketing and Development, welcomed LRWDB members and provided an overview of ALB’s 76-year history as one of 93 associated agencies of the National Industries for the Blind (NIB), which work to enhance opportunities for persons who are blind or visually impaired, primarily through creating, sustaining, and improving employment.
Staff members conducted a tour of the production floor at ALB’s manufacturing facility, located in the industrial district of southwest Little Rock. Over 70 employees who are blind produce items like apparel for branches of the U. S. military and paper products for organizations like the federal government. Discussion following the tour provided greater insight into the ways in which the LRWDB and WIOA programs can best support ALB’s efforts to enhance opportunities for economic and personal independence for individuals with visual disabilities.
