George's Story - WIOA Dislocated Worker Services

“I became a dislocated worker because of a termination from American Mobile Transportation. They had a change in policy about hiring of ex-offenders. After working with my career counselor, I was hired with C & M Distribution Beer, Wine & Spirits as a Truck Driver with an hourly wage of $11.00. After three months of employment or 300 hours of truck driving time, my hourly wage will be $16.50.”

Since then, I completed the Practical Nursing Program at Pulaski Technical College and passed the National Council Licensure Exam, making me a Licensed Practical Nurse. Now I’m employed as a LPN making $21.00 an hour."

Dorian's Story - Arkansas PROMISE and Summer Youth Employment Program

"During my first PROMISE meeting, as I was introducing myself to the group, a young man shouted out 'I want to be an architect!'

Dorian Shavis spent a month working with us during the summer, experiencing what it takes to be an architect. His laughter and enjoyment of being at work was contagious! We had him present his drawings to a group of professionals. That was the day I knew Dorian could have a future in architecture."
