The Little Rock Workforce Development Board (LRWDB) and Equus Workforce Solutions are hosting three Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) Interns for six weeks during the months of June and July. The SYEP is a program of the City of Little Rock – Community Programs Department. The Little Rock Workforce Center on University Avenue serves as the Interns’ worksite.
Kevion Reeves, Jamerson Childs, and Donavan Jamerson are working under the supervision of Yolanda Carman, Operations Manager at Equus Workforce Solutions, in partnership with Executive Director, W. J. Monagle. The Interns perform a range of assignments, including organizing supplies and files, supporting the workforce center Resource Lab, assisting with security operations, and staffing the front desk. The trainees also attended the 2023 Summer Youth Job Fair hosted by the Watershed and the City of Little Rock.
The SYEP offers Little Rock youth, aged 16-21, opportunities to build employability skills and work ethic, learn about careers, and earn a wage during the summer. Interns complete and Onboarding Session and Job Readiness Training prior to placement with a local employer. Each trainee benefits from the guidance of a worksite Supervisor and assigned Mentor throughout the duration of the program.
The LRWDB is proud to serve as a business partner with the City of Little Rock as it invests $1.06 million dollars in summer employment to equip youth with the capabilities to be productive members of the workforce.
