On February 6, 2016 the Central Arkansas Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Coalition held its annual “Super Saturday” event at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds Arts & Crafts Building. The EITC Coalition includes the City of Little Rock, Entergy Arkansas, the Central Arkansas Development Council, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Arkansas Workforce Centers.
The event is a day of free tax preparation that is designed to help qualified working families claim up to $6,000 in the earned income tax credit. In a single day, 296 working families filed their taxes free of charge, saving them around $100,000 in preparation fees. An estimated $331,000 in additional EITC refunds will be returned to the Little Rock economy.
The theme for participants this year was “Prepare Your Future,” which emphasized the tools and resources that can help people invest in their retirement, buy a home, make improvements to their home, start their own business, and protect themselves from scams. Attendees were able to take advantage of the Super Saturday Resource Fair to get help with these types of financial questions and issues. Members of area businesses, organizations, and service providers, dressed in their favorite NFL team, “tailgated” at the fairgrounds to showcase their services for local tax customers.
As in previous years, the Super Saturday event served as a critical resource to empower families and benefit the local community!
